Welcome to my digital portfolio!
My name is Lynda Davis, and I recently completed my dissertation on American regional literature and graduated Texas Christian University with a PhD in English, where I am currently instructing in the English Dept. Additionally, I teach eight-week sessions of English Composition I and II to active and retired military (and spouses) for Columbia College located at the Joint Reserve Base (JRB) in Fort Worth. This portfolio reflects my teaching and administrative experience along with my scholarly ambitions. My interests run the gamut, as you can see from the list below.
My interests include:
- Writing (Composition, Creative, and for Publication)
- American Literature (American Regionalism, Southern Gothic, Race, Class Resistance, and Cross-Cultural Marriages)
- British Literature (18th & 19th centuries, Gothic literature, Jonathan Swift)
- Theory (Mikhail Bakhtin, Michel Foucault, Peter Stallybrass and Allon White)
- Vintage cars, clothing, furniture, and travel trailers. Recently, I have taken up quilting.
While my interests seem broad, my love for teaching & learning is focused and dedicated. In fact, I married into a family of teachers. My husband teaches Engineering and Architecture at a local high school. Recently, we became active "glampers," traveling about in our 1967 Airstream Caravel named after Mark Twain's "A Tramp Abroad." I jokingly claim he is the "Tramp," and I am "A Broad." Currently, we are working on our 1964 Shasta, christened "Zelda" after the first flapper. He and I have two really bright and ambitious children. Our daughter, who also teaches, is working towards her PhD in Art History, focusing on the Interwar period, and our son is in the Army's flight program.
