Race and American Literature, with Dr. Theresa Gaul PDF

Class and Resistance in American Literature, with Dr. Dan Williams PDF
- List features a variety of canonical and non-canonical writers whose narratives reveal evidence of class status, conflict, and resitance. A large portion of the readings focus on the middle-class and span Republican Nation Making, Sentimentalism, Sensationalism, Transcendentalism, and American Realism.
Cross-Cultural Marriages in American Literature, with Dr. Sarah Robbins PDF
- On the whole, the readings on this list tend to be less or non-canonical. Some of the texts may be difficult to find--resulting in reading texts online or on microfiche. I have been fortunate enough to find at least an electornic copy of the more elusive unrecovered novels. In considering candidates for my list, I looked for couples that involved an American marrying a person from another nation, or Americans of two opposing races marrying. At present, I have international marriages, Black / White marriages, Mexican American / White marriages, Native American / White marriages, North / South marriages (ante/postbellum); cross-class marriages, East / Mid-West marriages. Since this list will feed my dissertation, I would love to hear any primary or secondary texts suggestions you may have.
